چکیده

Nanotubes with diameters ranging from 20 to 400 nm and densities in the range of 108 109 cm 2, produced on metal-coated Ž . Ž . silicon by microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition, show various shapes depending upon: i growth conditions; and ii preor post-growth treatment of the samples. Presence of nitrogen in the growth or pre-growth atmosphere increases the density and vertical growth rate of nanotubes. The growth rate on an iron-coated substrate is higher than on a nickel-coated substrate. A cleaning procedure, consisting of ultrasonic treatment of nanotubes in methanol, is demonstrated. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved. Ž .

Optimized Conditions for Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition of Vertically Aligned Carbon Nanotubes

Here, we have synthesized vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VA-CNTs), using chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. Cobalt and ethanol are used as the catalyst and the carbon source, respectively. The effects of ethanol flow rate, thickness of Co catalyst film, and growth time on the properties of the carbon nanotube growth are investigated. The results show that the flow rate of ethanol and...

Growth and field emission properties of small diameter carbon nanotube films

Vertically aligned carbon nanotube films with diameters smaller than 5 nm, high densities up to 10/cm, and lengths of ~ 5–8 Am were deposited by microwave plasma-assisted chemical vapor deposition. Experiments show that, by continuous reduction in the thickness of the iron film (i.e., ~0.3–0.5 nm), small diameter carbon nanotubes can be achieved with diameters that ranged from 1–5 nm, and the f...

Effect of Substrate Morphology on Growth and Field Emission Properties of Carbon Nanotube Films

Carbon nanotube (CNT) films were grown by microwave plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition process on four types of Si substrates: (i) mirror polished, (ii) catalyst patterned, (iii) mechanically polished having pits of varying size and shape, and (iv) electrochemically etched. Iron thin film was used as catalytic material and acetylene and ammonia as the precursors. Morphological and struct...

Chemical Vapor Deposition of Carbon Nanostructures and Carbon Nanotubes-Reinforced Composites

The vapor deposition of open-networked carbon nanostructures and carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-reinforced composites have been developed and studied parametrically. Carbon nanostructures, including nano-tubes, nano-foams, nanoparticles, and nano-walls, have been deposited on catalyst-assisted substrates using microwave plasma electron cyclotron resonance-chemical vapor deposition (ECR-CVD) system at ...

Thermal conductivity of multiwalled carbon nanotubes

Thermal conductivity of multiwalled carbon nanotubes ~CNT’s! prepared using a microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition system is investigated using a pulsed photothermal reflectance technique. We find that the average thermal conductivity of carbon nanotube films, with the film thickness from 10 to 50 mm, is around 15 W/m K at room temperature and independent of the tube length. Taking a smal...
